THE ANNIE WALSH MEMORIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL AGAIN WINS HRCSL DEBATE

The Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School on Friday December 6th 2019 won the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone Inter Secondary School debate on the topic: Life imprisonment deters rape and sexual penetration. The debate was held at the Sierra Leone Library Board and organized by the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone with funding from the Irish Aid/UNDP. Seventy Secondary School pupils and teachers participated. There were 29 female and 41 Male. The Annie Walsh scored 588 points beating the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School scoring 451 and the Government Municipal Secondary school scoring 357. Cliffrene Haffner from the Annie Walsh School emerged as the best debater. This is the third time the Annie Walsh Memorial School is winning quiz and debate competitions organized by HRCSL on human rights issues. In 2017, they won another HRCSL debate on the topic ‘respect for human rights as a pre-requisite for a politically tolerant and peaceful 2018 elections’. Fatmata Binta Jalloh of the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School was the best debater.
